From the shop

A door you barely notice.

Before work starts you will know exactly what we intend to do and what it involves. If we find something else while the door is apart, we stop and show you, and you decide whether to add it. Nobody should learn about extra work from the invoice, and nobody should be talked into a part they did not need.

Garage door services

From springs to smart openers

Garage doors rarely fail all at once. They give hints first, and this list is arranged around those hints. Match the one you have noticed and you will see what the visit involves and which parts are usually behind it.

Repairs

Repair & Maintenance

From a wobble in the panels to a draft under the door, the repair and maintenance services deal with the wear a door collects through years of daily use and hard winters.

Springs

Springs & Hardware

Spring size is chosen by measurement, not by guess: wire thickness, inside diameter, length and the door's weight all matter. The services in this group start with those measurements so the new spring matches the door rather than the old part.

Garage Door Opener Replacement

During the ice storm the power was off for two days. You came home in the dark, found the door dead, and had to climb out of the car to pull the red cord in the cold. A door that keeps working through an outage is now on the list.

Garage Door Opener Replacement

Which fix fits?

The power is out and the car is inside. The usual fix

UsuallyEmergency release and manual lift.

WhyThe red cord disconnects the door from the opener so it can be raised by hand if it is balanced.

You pulled the release cord and now the opener will not reconnect. The usual fix

UsuallyTrolley re-engagement.

WhyThe trolley needs to be lined up with the carriage; a stuck or damaged release lever can be repaired.

The release cord is frayed or has snapped off.The usual fix

UsuallyEmergency release repair.

WhyA new cord and handle, and a check that the release lever moves freely.

One side of the door sits higher than the other in the tracks, and a lift cable is hanging slack or has jumped off its drum. The usual fix

UsuallyTorsion Spring Replacement

WhyThe finished result is a door that behaves the way a good garage door should: it lifts by hand with light effort, stays where you leave it at mid-height, closes softly and lets the opener run with little strain.

It is the first hard frost of the year and the door on the old detached garage has stopped halfway, squealing at one pulley. The usual fix

How a visit goes

The finished result is a door that behaves the way a good garage door should: it lifts by hand with light effort, stays where you leave it at mid-height, closes softly and lets the opener run with little strain. Reaching that point involves measuring the door, choosing a matched spring, winding it…

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 38%Homes of every age

About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

A mixed-age neighbourhood is where retrofits are most common: safety cables added to extension springs, a torsion conversion on an older door, insulated panels replacing a hollow door, or a quieter belt opener under a newly finished room above the garage. Each is a routine job for us.

  • 37%

Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).

In condominium communities the outward appearance of a garage door is often set by the corporation's rules, down to colour and panel style. We check what the board expects before ordering a replacement door, so the new one is approved and matches the row without a second conversation.

What about a garage with very little space above the door?

Low-headroom garages use a different arrangement: the spring assembly may be mounted at the rear of the horizontal tracks, or special low-headroom drums and track bring the door up with less clearance. Replacement follows the same principles, but the drums, cable routing and turn count differ. The technician identifies the system on arrival and brings hardware that suits it, so the door balances correctly in the space available.

Can I keep using the opener until the technician arrives?

The kindest thing for the door is to leave it where it is and use another entrance. An opener is designed to move a door the springs have already made light; asking it to lift a full-weight door strains the trolley and gear drive and can crease the top section. Keeping the door still and clear of people until the spring is replaced protects the rest of the system from extra repairs.

What other parts are often replaced with the spring?

The shaft is free during a spring change, which makes it the natural time to renew the centre bearing and end bearings if they grind or wobble. Lift cables that show fraying or rust at the bottom brackets are replaced so the new spring pulls on sound steel, and cracked or worn drums are swapped. On older doors, a corroded centre bracket or loose lag bolts may also be addressed. Each item is shown and explained before it is added.

Will the new spring look the same as the old one?

Not necessarily, and that is fine. The paint colour on the winding cone or coil is a code that identifies wire size and wind direction, and different suppliers use their own schemes, so a matched replacement can carry a different colour than the spring it replaces. What matters is that the wire size, diameter, length and wind direction suit the door's weight and height, which is confirmed by the balance test.

Will my phone app or hub still work after the sensors are changed?

Yes. The sensors are wired to the head unit, and the app or hub simply talks to that unit, so nothing about the connection changes. What you will notice is the fault code clearing: apps that reported the sensors as obstructed or not aligned show the door as ready to close again. If an app or hub still holds an old code after the work, refreshing it or cycling the door from the app once clears it.
